What Is Hunchback Posture? (Postural Kyphosis)

Hunchback posture, also known as postural kyphosis, is when your upper back curves forward excessively — making you look like you're slouching or shrinking down into yourself. For some people, it’s barely noticeable. For others, it’s severe enough that it affects confidence, breathing, shoulder positioning, and even height.

Most of the time, this isn’t caused by a disease or spinal deformity. It’s caused by lifestyle.

Think about it — we sit all day. At the desk, in the car, on the couch. Shoulders rounded, neck forward, core asleep. Over time, this posture becomes your “normal.” Your thoracic spine (the upper/mid-back region) loses its ideal Straight posture and shifts into a permanent C-shape instead.
